Is It a Heart Attack...or "Stuck" Food?

Pain in your chest and shoulder area can be a sign that food you've eaten is lodged in the stoma. It can also be a sign of a heart attack. If you're not sure, calling 911 is always the best choice, says bariatric surgeon Terry Simpson, MD, of Phoenix, Arizona. "Emergency room personnel can do two things: rule out or treat a heart attack and-if you're not having one-remove fluid from your band so that food can move through." To avoid stuck food, remember to take small bites and chew thoroughly.
