Learning how to read the Nutrition Facts label found on the side, back, or bottom of packaged foods will help you meet your nutritional targets after surgery. Important info to look for includes:

  • A food's fiber content-aim for about 20 grams a day once you're eating regular food.
  • Grams of protein per serving-make sure you're meeting your protein target.
  • Grams of fat-stick with your recommended fat limits.
  • Calories per serving-some packages contain more than one serving, so read closely!
