Easy Ways to Eat Low-Fat
Cutting back on saturated and trans fats helps you lose weight and keep it off.
- Eat lean protein such as lean meats, fish, seafood, beans, and soy protein powder.
- Remove visible fat from meat and skin from poultry.
- Use low-fat cooking methods (grilling, steaming, microwaving, boiling).
- Use only 3 to 4 teaspoons of margarine, butter, or oil daily.
- Switch to low-fat or fat-free versions of dairy foods and condiments and avoid high-fat items like chips, pastries, cream sauces, and fried food. (Remember that even fat-free foods can still be high in calories!)
- Choose healthier fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated) when you can. For instance, cook with olive or canola oil. Enjoy nuts in moderation.
