"It's important to learn to identify emotional hunger and have other ways of meeting your needs." Proven strategies include keeping a food diary so that you recognize the situations, feelings and times of day that trigger extra eating. The next step is practicing other coping strategies, such as taking a walk, relaxing, or talking to a friend. It's also smart to keep only good food choices in your kitchen and to nurture yourself in ways that reduce stress naturally, by exercising and getting enough sleep.
