Gurgling? Read This

Rate This Resource
You may discover that your tummy gurgles-especially early in the day-in a new way once you've had LAP-BAND® System surgery. What's happening? It's a little like a watercooler: As water goes down into your stomach, air comes out. The gurgle happens when the two trade places. "Often, because of physiological changes in the body overnight, the band is a bit tighter in the morning. Drinking fluids early in the day seems to lead to gurgling," notes bariatric dietitian Erin Hurst, RD/LD, of the Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in Cincinnati, Ohio. "When it first happens to you, it's a very odd experience. And plenty of people ask me about it. They always want to know if it's normal. And it is. It's perfectly normal. For many people, the noises quiet down over time."
