Move Past Constipation

"The majority of the time, constipation with the LAP-BAND® System comes from not drinking enough fluids," says bariatric surgeon Terry Simpson, MD, of Phoenix, Arizona. "So start drinking more at the times of day recommended by your doctor." Need more of a nudge? If your diet stage does not yet permit high-fiber foods, ask your doctor whether you can use an over-the-counter aide. If your eating plan does allow high-fiber foods, be sure you're getting enough fruits, vegetables, beans and high-fiber breakfast cereal every day. (You can record your intake with our online food tracker.) If constipation persists, ask your doctor whether you can add a fiber supplement. And stay active-exercise can help keep things moving!
