Becoming Physically Active After LAP-BAND®

The more you can move, the more you can lose

Before surgery, it may have been hard to be as active as you might have wanted to be. However, after LAP-BAND® System surgery, the more weight you lose, the easier it should become for you to be more active. You may find you enjoy it more, too.

Now’s the time to get started. Slow and easy is fine at first. But within four to six weeks, you should be able to resume normal activity and exercise regularly. Consult your surgeon and weight-management team to find out which activity is right for you.

If your Doctor recommends: You might try:
Very light activity
  • Activities which require you to stand
  • Simple chores (e.g., walking to the mailbox, ironing, cooking)
  • Playing a musical instrument
Light activity
  • Walking (leisurely, 24 min/mile)
  • Carpentry
  • Light Housecleaning
  • Child Care
  • Golf
Moderate activity
  • Walking (brisk, 15 min/mile)
  • Gardening (weeding, planting, etc)
  • Cycling
  • Tennis
  • Dancing
High activity
  • Walking (power, 10 min/mile)
  • Jogging
  • Basketball
  • Climbing
  • Soccer
